Allision with flood gate in Brunsbüttel
On Mar 15, 2014, the "Passaat" allided with the flood gate no.7.2
of the small southern lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel.
The unloaded ship was enroute from Grimsby to Vierow and about
to enter the lock at 06.37 a.m.
Stormy wind pushing the ship from astern and the failure of the
bow thruster caused the ship to run into the gate.
The flood gate suffered significant damage, but could be operated
further.
The ship suufered minor damage in the bow region and was allowed
to continue to Vierow where a more detailed survey took place.
On Mar 16 at 11 a.m. the vessel dropped anchor off Rügen.
